BMW has published a video showing the next-generation iX3 prototype being charged with up to 403 kW of power. This is even higher than the officially announced maximum of 400 kW.

Here's What We Know

The video shows the still-disguised electric crossover being plugged into a charger. The power increases rapidly and peaks at 402-403 kW. That's an impressive figure for a non-Chinese manufacturer, especially when you consider that BMW's current models on the CLAR platform don't even come close to those numbers.

The iX3 will be the first model in the new Neue Klasse range, a family of all-new electric cars built from scratch and on a new platform of the same name. The main difference is the 800-volt architecture, which allows the battery to charge much faster than before. In addition, these cars have new motors, batteries and common electronics.

BMW calculates that in 10 minutes on such a charge, the iX3 adds about 350 kilometres of mileage on the WLTP cycle. From 10 to 80 per cent battery charge in 20 minutes. The maximum range is up to 800 kilometres in the same WLTP cycle, 900 kilometres according to the Chinese CLTC protocol or 400 miles according to the US EPA standard. For comparison, the range of the current BMW iX is about 700 kilometres. So in terms of efficiency, the new iX3 is already one step ahead.
