Chaos in Hunt: Showdown! Crytek rolls back 'catastrophic' 2.4 update after a day of struggle: players furious, compensation not enough
The latest update of Hunt: Showdown has turned into a nightmare! After struggling with the problems with the "Judgement of the Fool" update for their popular shooter for days on end, Crytek finally gave up, rolled back all the changes and said they would try again later. This decision, although aimed at restoring stability, caused a flurry of indignation among the community, which spent the whole day without their favourite game.
Here's What We Know
Problems with the update became apparent almost immediately after its launch, when numerous complaints about server issues and the inability to purchase Blood Bonds began to be reported. A few hours after the update was released, Crytek stated that it was aware of the problem and shut down all game servers to fix it, promising to "report back as soon as the servers are back online".
It took more than eight hours before the servers finally returned to normal (at least for Steam), but the 2.4 update never appeared. "After exhausting all possible solutions, we have decided to roll back the game to update 2.3 to restore stability and will keep an eye on it," Crytek wrote. "The rollback to update 2.3 is now available for Steam players. Console players can expect an update soon as we work to restore access to PlayStation and Xbox."
No return date for the 2.4 update was provided, but Crytek promised that it will be back "as soon as possible". The company also said that players who encountered problems with purchases during the short life of the 2.4 update will receive the items they purchased, as well as other, unspecified compensation. In addition, "as a token of appreciation for your patience," all players have until 27 June to redeem a code (XIE25T57R247N190) that grants them 10,000 Hunt dollars.
However, this did not calm down much of the Hunt: Showdown community. Some fans (especially those without the best internet connection) are annoyed that they had to download 26GB of data for the 2.4 update, only to have to download another 26GB of data to uninstall it. Others are annoyed that they couldn't play the game all day.
Naturally, there has also been a wave of negative user reviews on Steam, where the "latest reviews" rating is now "mixed".
