The Google Photos app for Android will soon have a search function directly in the image editing menu. This became known thanks to the disassembly of the APK file version 7.34.0.772224975.

Here's What We Know

The new search icon will be located at the bottom of the editing screen.

The user will be able to enter, for example, the word "sharpen" - and get quick access to the sharpening tool. The "erase" (for Magic Eraser) and other commands work in the same way. This will make it easier to navigate through a large number of tools and filters.

Google is also preparing an updated design of the editor in the style of Material 3 Expressive. The interface will become more streamlined and visually modern - with new sections Auto, Actions, Filters, Lighting, Colour and others. Expect to see new filters including "Sky styles" (Radiant, Ember, Vivid) and the addition of Enhance, Dynamic, and AI Enhance auto-enhancement features. These include tools such as Portrait Background Blur, Removing Objects from Photos, and Reimagine.

Android users will also get access to features that were previously only available on Pixel smartphones. Among them:

  • Auto Enhance with a choice of multiple AI enhancements;
  • Reimagine for generating new items by description;
  • Auto Frame for intelligent cropping.

In addition, the user will have the ability to share albums via QR code. This feature will simplify photo sharing at public events: just scan the code to get access to a shared album.

The update has already started rolling out on Android, iOS users will get it a little later.

These changes are aimed at improving usability and speeding up photo sharing - especially for those who regularly edit images in the app.
