Apple is preparing to launch its first foldable smartphone in 2026 and has already ordered up to 8 million flexible displays from Samsung Display. This was reported by Guo Mingqi, an analyst who tracks Apple's supply chain.

Here's What We Know

According to the analyst, the production of the new device will start in the late third or early fourth quarter of 2026. Samsung Display will be the key supplier of flexible OLED displays, as Apple is not considering other options. The assembly will be entrusted to Foxconn.

The main problem that Apple wants to solve before the announcement is the crease on the display at the bend. It has been typical for all foldable devices since 2019, when the first Galaxy Fold was released. Although Samsung makes it less noticeable every year, Apple aims to completely remove this effect.

It is expected that the new iPhone will feature state-of-the-art panels that are 19% thinner than those used in the current Galaxy Fold series.

Meanwhile, Samsung is preparing to unveil the seventh generation of its foldable smartphones in July in New York.

The start of mass production of the foldable iPhone is expected in July-August 2026, and the presentation and launch of the device in autumn 2026. The foldable iPhone will have a titanium alloy body, a dual rear camera and a single front camera, as well as Touch ID instead of Face ID. According to preliminary estimates, the price of the gadget will be $2000-2500.
