Volkswagen ID 2 GTI will get a Clubsport version with more than 280bhp - Autocar
Volkswagen is developing a "hardcore" version of the small electric hatch ID 2 GTI, reported Autocar citing insiders. The novelty will receive a mechanical differential of increased friction and an increase in power.
Here's What We Know
The front-wheel-drive ID 2 GTI should go on sale at the end of 2026 with a power of about 223 hp, provided by a new-generation APP550 electric motor. However, Autocar has learned that engineers at VW's research centre in Braunschweig, Germany, are also working on a more powerful and specialised version that will have a maximum output of 282bhp.
Along with the extra power, such a version, following the example of the previous "hot" Golf Clubsport, will have a number of mechanical and electronic differences.
The main one is a mechanical high friction differential, which provides the possibility of torque vectoring between the front wheels.
Other options under consideration include variable torque delivery and a virtual gearshift function. Together, these systems adjust the intensity of torque build-up according to speed and accelerator pedal pressure to reduce jerkiness under hard acceleration, while replicating the step response of a manual gearbox.

The first Golf GTI Clubsport was launched in 2016 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the GTI, followed by the Clubsport S - then a Nürburgring record holder with a lightweight interior and manual gearbox.
The current Golf GTI Clubsport is powered by a 296bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine and features customised ECU tuning, an upgraded chassis and adaptive suspension. It is positioned as Volkswagen's fastest and most advanced front-wheel-drive hatchback to date.
