The Tremor family of off-road models has been expanded to include the Explorer, which is Ford's second best-selling model in the U.S. behind the F-150. See the new Explorer Tremor at Blue Oval dealerships later this year.

Here's What We Know

Buyers will be able to choose between two engines. The base one is a 2.3-litre EcoBoost with 300 horsepower, just like on the regular Explorer. For those who want more drive, there is a 3.0-litre biturbo V6 with 400 horsepower as on the sporty Explorer ST.

Engineers seriously redesigned the suspension especially for off-road. They put reinforced springs and stabilisers. The SUV was raised by 1 inch (2.5 centimetres), which slightly improved the angles of entry and exit when overcoming obstacles. Protective plates have been added underneath to protect the engine and transmission from hitting rocks, stumps, and soil. A couple of other important details are a self-locking differential and 18-inch off-road tyres.

Inside, the Explorer Tremor gets Ford's latest digital developments. Google maps, voice assistant and applications from Google Play are integrated - you can use usual services directly from the car screen.

For lovers of quality music, a Bang Olufsen audio system with 14 speakers has been fitted. And the Copilot 360 system now shows a full view around the car, which can be useful not only in a supermarket car park, but also for assessing the situation on a difficult off-road. Of course, Ford's proprietary BlueCruise 1.5 partially automated driving system for hands-free on-road driving is also available as an option.

Tremor versions are now available for models from the compact Maverick pick-up to the large Expedition SUV. They're the middle ground: more serious looking and equipped than the regular models, but not as expensive and extreme as the top-of-the-line Raptor.
