Renault has turned a van into a strange convertible limousine for factory tours
The Argentine division of Renault has created an unusual car - a limousine-cabriolet based on the serial Kangoo Express. And it is not someone's amateur endeavour, but an official project of the company.
Here's What We Know
Photos of the curiosity published in social networks Pablo Sibila - president of Renault Argentina. From the original Kangoo Express remained only the front and rear parts, wings and doors. The other elements have been radically redesigned.
The roof was cut off completely, and the wheelbase was stretched. It turned out to be an open limousine with four rows of seats. The car was painted in the colours of the Argentine flag and decorated with graphics in the style of Renault emblem.
Photos show that the limousine can carry nine passengers plus the driver. The front passenger seat has been removed to leave a passageway to the second row. The third and fourth rows are accessed through a side sliding door. An interesting detail: the rear rows of seats have been raised higher than the others. Thus, passengers in the back can see the surroundings better - like in a tourist bus.
The limousine is based on the Kangoo Express, which is also a redesigned Dacia Dokker. In Argentina, this model is sold as a more affordable alternative to the third-generation Kangoo. Buyers can choose between two engines: petrol 1.6-litre with 112 hp or diesel 1.5-litre with 88 hp. At the same time, the diesel is more tractive - 220 Nm of torque against 156 Nm of its petrol counterpart.
According to the president of Renault Argentina, the unusual car will take visitors on excursions around the plant. Including schoolchildren - they will obviously enjoy riding in such an outlandish transport.
However, so far the limousine is idle. The plant in Santa Isabel is going through a "period of confidentiality" - they are preparing for the production of a new pickup truck for South America. It will be a compact truck with a payload of half a tonne, the concept of which was shown in 2023 under the name Niagara.
The new pickup will be built on a modular platform and may be offered with a hybrid powertrain. Once the secrecy is lifted and the new model is officially unveiled, the Kangoo limousine will finally enter service and start working as intended.
