Mercedes has revealed the 1,360bhp Concept AMG GT XX electric super sedan
The Mercedes-AMG GT XX is a crazy four-door electric car that foreshadows the production model. The concept has three engines with a combined output of over 1,360 horsepower.
Here's What We Know
The concept is radically different from the current AMG GT 4-Door. The front end resembles a fish head with a huge grille that takes up almost the entire width of the car. It is so wide that additional headlights had to be built right into it. The main headlights are placed above each other, and the bonnet is made in racing style with divided air ducts. There is a small splitter at the bottom, which goes into vertical air curtains on the sides.
The windscreen is strongly sloped, and from the side the car resembles a coupe. There is no rear window - instead of it there are only narrow side windows. Door handles are recessed into the body, and 21-inch wheels have sections that open and close to balance aerodynamics and brake cooling. The rear looks simpler but has muscular arches and an active air brake. A carbon fibre diffuser and six round LED lights have been added.
Another highlight of the design is the MBUX Fluid Light panel with more than 700 programmable RGB-LEDs. With its help, the car can "communicate" with the outside world through text or animation. Another oddity is the external speakers in the headlights that produce "engine sounds". Mercedes hasn't revealed details, but a recent teaser showed how the prototype production car mimics the roar of a V8 engine.
The concept has been painted in a bright Sunset Beam orange colour. The aerodynamic drag coefficient is impressive at just 0.198.

If Mercedes used to be famous for leather and wood, the interior of the GT XX is more like the cabin of a racing simulator. There is a 10.25-inch dashboard, a 14-inch multimedia screen and a compact steering wheel in the style of the AMG One hypercar. The centre console is adorned with glowing orange tubes that mimic power cables. The seat backs are made of carbon fibre, the roof is also carbon fibre and the flooring is made from 100 per cent recycled materials.

The concept is built on the new AMG.EA platform with a high-performance battery developed from scratch. Three motors manufactured by Yasa provide enormous power in a compact package. One motor is mounted at the front, two at the rear. This gives full-time all-wheel drive and a combined output of over 1,360 horsepower. The top speed exceeds 359 kilometres per hour.
The NCMA battery has an energy density of 300Wh/kg. The cylindrical cells are housed in an aluminium casing to save weight and dissipate heat quickly. A special coolant flows around each cell to maintain optimum temperature. Most impressive is the charging speed. The concept can get 400 kilometres of range in about five minutes thanks to an average charging power of over 850 kW.
There are no such chargers available yet, so Mercedes has developed its own prototype charging station together with Alpitronic. The performance will be more modest in the production version, but the company promises to expand the Mercedes-Benz Charging Network with next-generation chargers with "extremely fast" performance.
