First look at the gameplay of Resident Evil Requiem - first-person horror and the return of the classic look
Capcom finally showed the first tiny fragments of Resident Evil Requiem gameplay during a recent broadcast. It's our first look at the upcoming nightmare that promises to combine tense atmosphere and dynamic action in the signature Resident Evil style.
Here's What We Know
During the Capcom Spotlight event, the developers demonstrated a small part of the first-person gameplay focused on the atmosphere of horror. The main character is a new protagonist - FBI agent Grace Ashcroft. We see the character slowly moving through eerie corridors with only a lighter for illumination. At one point, Ashcroft turns around and sees a huge humanoid creature coming towards her from the shadows - a heart-pounding moment!
In another clip of first-person gameplay, we see Ashcroft exploring a large hall, this time holding a gun (as an FBI agent, Ashcroft is good with weapons). She is also able to "act calmly using deductive reasoning" and we see her inspecting a toolbox in classic Resident Evil style, which demonstrates her attention to detail.
And finally, we get a very brief look at Resident Evil Requiem's third-person gameplay, where Ashcroft once again explores creepy corridors and poorly lit rooms. We again see that terrifying creature stomping carelessly in the shadows.
Throughout the video, Capcom's developers explain how the first-person perspective provides "tense, realistic gameplay", while the third-person game through the over-the-shoulder camera allows you to see "more action". The third-person perspective is "great for people who enjoy action-oriented gameplay," Capcom added. Resident Evil Requiem allows players to switch between the first and third person through the settings menu at any time during the campaign.
In addition, Capcom confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem takes place 30 years after the missile attack on Raccoon City at the end of Resident Evil 3. This explains the huge crater we saw in the announcement trailer. In fact, the name "Requiem" was chosen because, as Capcom explains: "This game is a requiem, a tribute to those who have gone before us."
Resident Evil Requiem is out on 27 February 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S.
