"How's that look for you?" Google Doppl will try on any bow for you - virtually but convincingly
Google has launched a new experimental app called Doppl, which allows you to try on any clothes on yourself - without going to a shop or fitting rooms. With the help of AI, Doppl creates an animated digital avatar of the user, on which you can "put on" things from photos, screenshots or even other people's images from social networks.
Here's What We Know
The app is already available for download on iOS and Android in the US, but only as part of Google Labs for now - in other words, it's an experiment that's still being tested.
To get started, users need to upload a full-length photo. After that, you can choose any image - from a snapshot of clothes from a shop window to a screenshot from Instagram - and instantly see how it would look just right on you. Moreover, Doppl is able to turn static images into a video with a virtual fitting, which helps to better assess the fit and movement of the fabric.
Users can save their favourite looks, create their own virtual capsule, share the results with friends or simply collect style experiments.
Doppl is an evolution of Google Shopping's virtual fitting technology, but in the form of a separate, more interactive app. If earlier Google "tried on" things on models of different types, now - all the attention is on you: AI adapts to your figure, facial expressions, movements.
Google honestly warns that the application is not perfect yet - there may be errors in fit, texture display or size. But overall, Doppl opens up a new level of "private" virtual fashion and could be part of the company's future major initiatives in AI retail.
