In 2024, Samsung Electronics laid off about 10,000 employees at its foreign operations. This is according to the company's sustainability report.

Here's What We Know

At the same time, the company increased the number of employees by 4,500 in South Korea, confirming its policy of retaining key personnel within the country.

Samsung currently employs more than 125,000 people in South Korea, the largest number of employees of any company in the country. The bulk of research, development and production of semiconductors is concentrated here, so the staff growth is natural.

Overall, the number of Samsung Electronics employees worldwide decreased from 147,104 in 2023 to 137,350 in 2024. Most of the redundancies were in Southeast Asia, Europe and Australia. The layoffs mostly did not affect engineers and production specialists, but mainly concerned support functions.

Despite this, Samsung is pursuing a cautious restructuring strategy. In 2022, the company announced plans to hire 80,000 new employees in South Korea, and the current growth of staff within the country indicates that this goal is gradually being achieved.

The Samsung Galaxy Unpacked presentation will take place on 9 July at 16:00 (CEST). The flagship foldable smartphones Galaxy Fold 7 and Flip 7, as well as the Galaxy Watch 8 are expected to be presented there.
