Galaxy A55 will receive One UI 8 by the end of 2025 - smartphone spotted with Android 16
One of the most popular mid-range smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy A55, may receive a major software update by the end of this year. The company is currently testing its new proprietary One UI 8 shell running on Android 16.
Here's What We Know
Currently, One UI 8 is only available for the flagship Galaxy S25 series as part of a beta programme and only in select markets.
Recently, a Galaxy A55 with the model number SM-A556E was spotted in the Geekbench database with Android 16 installed, confirming that Samsung is already testing the new firmware for this device, which is powered by an Exynos 1480 processor. The company is expected to open access to the One UI 8 beta to Galaxy A55 owners over the next few months.

Once the testing is complete, users will be able to upgrade to the stable version, tentatively by the end of 2025. Until then, Galaxy A55 owners will continue to work with One UI 7, which is based on Android 15. It is worth noting that Samsung traditionally pays great attention to updates even for mid-budget smartphones, gradually expanding access to new features and improved security.
The One UI 8 update promises an even smoother user interface, new smart features, and improved optimisation for energy efficiency. The company has not yet officially disclosed what changes are expected for Galaxy A55 owners.
