Samsung is preparing to take another step in the world of foldable smartphones - this time with a new tri-fold format. Thanks to the animation files in the latest One UI 8 build , Android Authority has gotten its first look at the Samsung Galaxy G Fold (or "Multifold 7" as it's called in the code). The official announcement is expected next week at Samsung Unpacked.

The novelty will have two internal hinges that make up the device according to the "G-fold" scheme - unlike the "S-fold" of the Huawei Mate XT, where one of the hinges works outwards. This solution allows you to better protect the display from damage and maintain a more compact shape when folded.

What do the renders and animations show?

Galaxy G Fold consists of three back panels:

  • Left panel - probably with a triple camera in the style of modern Z Folds.
  • The middle panel contains an auxiliary display and a front camera for working in closed mode.
  • Right panel - looks like a "blind" part without a display, only for structural strength.

The animations also show that the hinges have different sizes - this is done to ensure that the display folds flat without excessive pressure. One more nuance: the code warns users not to fold the device with the camera panel facing inwards, as this can damage the mechanism.

Name or codename?

It is interesting that the One UI 8 files mention the name "Multifold 7", but this may only be a working codename. The final commercial name is likely to be Galaxy G Fold.

When to expect it?

Samsung has not yet confirmed the three-fold smartphone officially. There is a possibility that it will debut at Unpacked alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and Z Flip FE. But it's also possible that these animations may be just test files, and the final version will look completely different.
