There's a new feature in the iOS 26 beta - FaceTime freezes video and audio if nudity is recognised on screen. This innovation is intended for children's accounts and protection, but so far it works for all users

Here's What We Know

FaceTime in iOS 26 is designed so that if you try to get naked on camera, the call is instantly paused - and a warning is displayed:
"Audio and video are paused because you may be showing something sensitive...".

It's part of an enhanced Communication Safety system aimed at protecting children. While the feature is stated to be for children's accounts only, in beta it works for adults too - which raises questions about the limits of intervention.

The system uses on-device machine learning: the analysis happens on the device itself, Apple doesn't receive the video in any form. Once blocked, the user can either end the call or agree to continue if everything is "within normal limits".
