TWS headphones that also disinfect: Audio-Technica ATH-TWX9MK2 sterilise themselves
Audio-Technica has introduced a new generation of its premium ATH-TWX9MK2 wireless headphones, and this time the manufacturer has added a twist that will appeal to all hygiene enthusiasts and paranoid bacteria hunters. Thus, the charging case is not just a "box with a battery", but also a mobile sanitizer. Deep-spectrum ultraviolet LEDs and a mirror coating for even light distribution are hidden inside. The result is sterilisation of the headphone surface in 70 seconds, which, according to the manufacturer, destroys more than 99% of E. coli and some viruses.
And now for the traditional audio fetishist stuff: a new Pure Motion Driver™, a composite diaphragm for clearer sound, a hybrid noise cancellation system with MEMS microphones, support for Snapdragon Sound™ and aptX™ Adaptive for high resolution and minimal latency. The headphones also feature a personalised noise cancellation system, IPX4 water protection, and up to 6 hours of battery life (20 hours with a case).

The price in Japan is 38,500 yen (about $265), in two colours - black and white. Sales started on 11 July 2025.
Interestingly, the case does not emit UV light until the lid is closed. Paranoid people can relax - the headphones will not fade or lose colour. Moreover, the UV light is switched off for an hour after sterilisation so as not to "overheat" the headphones.
