Lamborghini is reconsidering plans to produce electric cars: the all-electric Urus is postponed until at least the middle of the next decade. This was announced in an interview with Autocar by the company's president and CEO Stephan Winkelmann.

Here's What We Know

According to the head of Lamborghini, the company has decided to keep the hybrid powertrain with an internal combustion engine for the next generation of the crossover, which is expected in 2029. He also added that many customers will be happy to keep the internal combustion engine.

Exactly what kind of powertrain the new Urus will come with has not yet been specified. However, the recently unveiled Urus SE already offers a hybrid system with a 4.0-litre V8 and an electric motor, with a combined output of 800bhp. - This is the most powerful version of the model to date.

Lamborghini's first production electric car was supposed to be the Lanzador crossover, but its production has already been postponed from 2028 to 2029. And the all-electric Urus may now appear around 2035.

The company explains that the changes are due to regulatory uncertainty, especially against the background of possible adjustments to the ban on internal combustion engines in the European Union, which could be adopted as early as next year. This gives manufacturers more room for manoeuvre - especially brands such as Lamborghini, where maintaining the character of a model depends directly on the sound and feel of the engine.
