Toyota will show the hydrogen-powered GR Yaris Rally2 H2 at Rally Finland
The Toyota Rally2 H2 concept is based on the GR Yaris Rally2 chassis and is equipped with an internal combustion engine fuelled by compressed hydrogen. The car emits virtually no harmful emissions into the atmosphere during operation, but still retains the sounds and sensations that rally fans enjoy so much.
Here's What We Know
Toyota has been participating in Japan's Super Taikyu series since 2021 with a hydrogen-powered Corolla prototype. In 2022, the technology was first demonstrated on rally stages in Europe when the experimental GR Yaris H2 made its debut on the FIA World Rally Championship round in Belgium, driven by Akio Toyoda and Juha Kankkunen. Since then, development has continued, resulting in the Rally2 H2 concept, which will be demonstrated at the Rally Finland.
The GR Yaris Rally2 H2 concept was developed at TGR-WRT's headquarters in Jyväskylä, Finland, and tested on local roads, including runs on gravel forest roads similar to those used in Rally Finland. As part of the public debut, the car will show its capabilities on the mixed surface Harju Stage in the centre of Jyväskylä. Four-time world champion Kankkkunen, deputy team principal of TGR-WRT, will be behind the wheel.
The Rally2 H2 car will also be on display in the service park during the event together with other hydrogen cars such as the Toyota Mirai and Tundra, as part of a wider demonstration of hydrogen technology in the city of Jyväskylä.
