Volkswagen has made a new Jetta SUV
In China, the Jetta brand, familiar in the West as the name of a Volkswagen sedan, has a life of its own. As of 2019, it's a separate brand under the wing of the FAW-VW joint venture, and now it's preparing to expand its lineup with a new midsize crossover, the VS8.
Here's What We Know
Sales in China will start before the end of 2025. The VS8 will be sold alongside the brand's other models, including the VS7. Despite its external similarities in dimensions, the novelty has got its own styling, which is also different from VW's European and American models.
Although the teaser campaign has just started in China, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has already revealed official images of the car. The main design highlight is the body-coloured grille with a simple grille structure. The compact headlights are connected by a thin LED strip. Below - glossy black inserts imitating air intakes.
Profile of VS8 is simple, with a barely noticeable dynamic slope of side glazing in the area of the rear pillar. At the rear, there are angular lights, another LED jumper and a bumper with combined trim. In the lower part there are two dark sectors, where could perfectly fit dual exhaust pipes, but in fact, the pipe is likely to be one and hidden from the eyes.
According to MIIT documents, the dimensions of the VS8 are 4,629 mm in length, 1,851 mm in width and 1,624 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,631 mm. The car is built on the MQB platform, like the VS7, and is equipped with the familiar 1.4-litre TSI turbo engine paired with a 6-speed automatic.
The model is expected to hit the market before the end of the year, but will be sold exclusively in China.
