Xiaomi's next electric car is rumoured to get two motors and a petrol turbo engine
After the successful launch of the SU7 sedan and high demand for the new YU7 crossover, Xiaomi is preparing its third car model - this time not an all-electric one. The first spy shots of the prototype model codenamed YU9 have appeared on Chinese social media.
Here's What We Know
According to local media, the YU9 will be a full-size SUV with a range-extender type powertrain. It will be powered by two electric motors, and a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine will act as a generator. According to preliminary estimates, the total power will be about 400 hp, with a range of over 200 kilometres (124 miles) on electric power alone, and a total range of up to 1,500 kilometres. The car is expected to get an 800-volt architecture, like the SU7, which will ensure fast charging speeds.

The YU9 will be noticeably larger and "squarer" than the YU7, with a classic large SUV silhouette. Camouflage is hiding design details for now, but the look is expected to retain the brand's signature features, including LED taillights and sharply contoured headlamps like the SU7 and YU7. According to unofficial reports, six- and seven-seat versions are planned.
The new model will be positioned above the YU7 and SU7. According to preliminary reports, the starting price will be around 360,000 yuan ($50,000), while top-end versions could cost up to 500,000 yuan ($70,000).
Xiaomi has not yet officially revealed a timeline for the YU9's debut.
