Subnautica 2 won't be out in 2025: Krafton's ugly decision has changed the developers' plans
Unknown Worlds studio has presented the first gameplay trailer of Subnautica 2 underwater survival simulator.
Here's What We Know
The video shows the game in the best light, but gives not the most pleasant news: the release of Subnautica 2 in Early Access is postponed to 2026.
Shortly before the release of the teaser, Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier published an article that said that the postponement of Subnautica 2 is not related to the state of the game, but is dictated solely by the mercantile interests of the publisher Krafton, which owns Unknown Worlds Entertainment.
The author explained that when the Korean company bought the developer, they had an agreement that the studio will receive a bonus of $250 million provided that certain revenue figures are achieved by the end of the year. According to Schreier's version, Krafton purposefully took this step in order not to pay the authors a round sum.
Although the official version sounds like the simulator is in poor technical condition and needs to be finalised.
As for the teaser, it shows the stunning beauty of the new underwater world, bizarre creatures and familiar from the first Subnautica mechanics of construction and resource extraction. But the main feature of the sequel will be a two-player co-operative mode.
Subnautica 2 is in development for PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and Xbox Series, including Game Pass.
