Volkswagen launches the ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE - a colourful special edition with a 90s reference
Exactly one year after the concept's premiere, Volkswagen has announced the start of series production and sales of the limited edition ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE, created in collaboration with sportswear brand BOGNER FIRE+ICE. The new product is inspired by the legendary Golf II Fire and Ice from 1990 and is produced in an edition of only 1990 pieces - in honour of the year of the original's debut. In Germany, prices start at 56,020 euros.
Here's What We Know
The hatchback is offered with two versions of the powertrain:
- 210 kW (286 hp),
- 240 kW (326 hp),
In both cases - with a torque of 545 Nm. The more powerful version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 200 km/h.
Power comes from a 79 kW∙h (net) battery. Fast charging up to 185 kWh is supported, allowing the charge to be replenished from 10 to 80 per cent in 26 minutes. WLTP range is up to 591 kilometres.
The main visual feature is the Ultra Violet Metallic paintwork, referring to the original Golf Fire and Ice. Completing the look are:
- contrasting Flaming Red accents on the roof trim,
- matte FIRE+ICE pattern on the rear pillar,
- Fire and Ice logo on the spoiler,
- 20-inch Locarno wheels with red GTX centre caps and purple accents.
- blacked-out taillights and projection of fire and ice symbols when the doors are opened.
The interior has a two-colour theme:
- driver's side is decorated in On Fire Red,
- and the passenger side in Keep Cool Blue.
- The seats refer to BOGNER down jackets - with stitching under the zip and the FIRE+ICE logo in the centre. Special stitching and emblems are also used on the steering wheel, mats, door inserts and front panel.
Both ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE variants are richly equipped:
- Interior Plus package: power sports seats with electric drive and massage, projection display with augmented reality, Harman Kardon audio system;
- Convenience package: dual-zone climate control, navigation;
- Assistance package: parking assistant, reversing camera, keyless entry, adaptive cruise control;
- Sport suspension is fitted by default, and the 240 kW version also features DCC adaptive dampers.
- Sport tyres are available at an extra cost.
Legacy Golf Fire and Ice
The original Golf Fire and Ice was launched in 1990 and became a fashion sensation. Developed in collaboration with designer and director Willy Bogner, it featured purple paintwork, aggressive bodywork and powerful engines (up to 160bhp). It was planned to be limited to 10,000 copies, but 16,700 were sold - and now this version is considered cult among Golf GTI fans.
