BOE displays will be used in the iPhone 17 Pro | Pro Max - but exclusively for China
Apple has approved the use of OLED displays from Chinese company BOE in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models, but with one important restriction: they will be installed only on devices designed for the Chinese market. This decision is an attempt to diversify the supply chain and possibly reduce dependence on Samsung and LG, while minimising possible quality risks at a global level.
Here's What We Know
BOE has previously supplied panels for some iPhones, but the company faced difficulties in producing premium OLED displays. Now, according to sources, Apple has allowed BOE to participate in production for Pro models for the first time, albeit locally. This could be a test ahead of a possible expansion of supply to global versions in the future.
For Apple, the decision also has strategic implications: amid geopolitical tensions, the company continues to localise part of its production and adapt device configurations to regional specifics. The Chinese market is the second most important for iPhone, and cooperation with local component manufacturers is particularly sensitive here.
