Many of Electronic Arts' once popular and gamers' favourite franchises are in decline and this is mainly due to the publisher's strange and short-sighted decisions.

One such series is Need for Speed, which delighted fans of arcade racing for many years, but after the 2010s the franchise began to stagnate and degrade.

Here's What We Know

At the beginning of 2025 Electronic Arts vice-president Vince Zampella said that the company is Need for Speed will definitely be back: Electronic Arts has no plans to say goodbye to the iconic racing franchise and the game will definitely return, but according to the latest information, if it happens, it will not happen soon.

Speedhunters editor Matthew Everingham confirmed that Electronic Arts has no plans to return to Need for Speed in the foreseeable future and has stopped funding the portal, which was created in 2008 as part of EA's marketing strategy to promote car culture.

The latest instalment of Need for Speed is the controversial Unbound, which was released in late 2022, and was in fact not a bad game, but the reputation of the series is so tainted that interest in the race was minimal and did not meet the financial demands of Electronic Arts.

As a reminder, EA recently Online racing is about to end: EA will shut down Need for Speed: Rivals servers, which caused a wave of criticism from fans.
