Apple is preparing to release an updated Apple TV, which could get not only a new chip and Wi-Fi 7 support, but also a built-in camera for FaceTime. The release is expected in late 2025, and the device is rumoured to be even smarter, faster and possibly cheaper - the price could drop below $100.

Here's What We Know

According to insider reports, the new model will get a new chip - probably the A18 or even A19 - instead of the A15 in the current version. This will provide a performance boost and possibly pave the way for Apple Intelligence on tvOS.

Another new feature is Apple's own wireless chip with Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 support, promising improved connection speed and stability.

Also discussed is an integrated camera for video calling via FaceTime and support for gesture control, features that could turn the Apple TV into something closer to a home communicator with Smart Home elements.

tvOS 26 also brings expanded support for Live Captions in multiple languages, new profile features and HomePod integration.

Best of all, a price cut is possible. Apple could go back to past generations' pricing of $99 or even lower to compete with Roku and Amazon Fire TV. Currently, the Apple TV 4K (3rd generation) in the US costs $129 with 64GB of storage and $140 for a 128GB model with an Ethernet port for wired internet.

Apple TV seems to be evolving from just a "series box" to something more - a smart hub, a gamer's terminal and a communication centre.
