The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom sportsboat with powertrain from the electric Porsche Macan Turbo set a new speed record at the Monaco race, accelerating to 49.84 knots (92 km/h).

Here's What We Know

Porsche has long been famous for its land speed records - most recently, the Taycan Turbo GT completed the Road Atlanta circuit in 1 minute and 33.8 seconds. But now the German company has also set a record on water. Albeit at a slower speed, but still a completely different surface.

This time the hero was not the Taycan, but the sports boat Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom - a joint development of Porsche and the Austrian shipbuilding company Frauscher. The 8.67-metre-long vessel takes its hull from the Frauscher 858 Fantom, as well as the electric propulsion system and battery from the most powerful Macan Turbo Electric.

In contrast to the crossover, which develops up to 639 hp (470 kW), the runabout produces 544 hp (400 kW). Its top speed is around 90 km/h in Sport Plus mode, but during the Monaco competition the boat achieved an average speed of 92 km/h (49.84 knots) in two 1 km swims.

The boat certainly has less range than the Macan - just 100 kilometres at low speed and about 45 kilometres at a cruising speed of 41 km/h (22 knots). For comparison, the Macan Turbo Electric can travel up to 590 kilometres on the WLTP cycle.

The record-breaking specimen in Oakgreen Metallic colour is built in Runabout style with a closed bow and an under-deck cabin. But Frauscher also offers an alternative Air version with centre steering and an open lounge area on the bow.

The price matches the exclusivity - such a boat costs from €571,000 ($664,000), which is about five times the price of the Macan Turbo Electric.
