Mitsubishi has unveiled the updated Outlander PHEV and announced an important change for the entire model: starting with the 2026 model year, the crossover will be offered in the US exclusively with hybrid powertrains. This also applies to the standard version - it will lose the usual 2.5-litre motor.

Here's What We Know

The base Outlander 2026 will get a new 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, similar to the one used in the Eclipse Cross. It is complemented by a mild hybrid system, which should improve low-speed response and overall dynamics.

Specifications are not yet disclosed. For reference: the previous 2.5-litre motor produced 181bhp, while the regular 1.5 version without hybrid assistance develops 152bhp.

In addition to the technical changes, there will be new versions in the Outlander line-up. Between the base ES and the middle SE will stand the new LE. SEL Black Edition and Ralliart versions will also debut. All of them will go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2025.

As for the plug-in hybrid (PHEV), it received the same restyling as the regular Outlander a year earlier. The model has a new front end with a different bumper and grille, darkened lights and 20-inch wheels.

The interior has a redesigned centre console, an improved Yamaha multimedia system (up to 12.3 inches), as well as ventilated front seats, higher quality trim materials and improved noise insulation.

The updated Outlander PHEV will be available in early 2026. Mitsubishi promises an upgraded powertrain with a larger capacity battery and extended electric range. The suspension will also be reconfigured: engineers have changed the characteristics of springs, shock absorbers, stabilisers and silent blocks.
