The global wave of layoffs, which has been going on in the game industry for several years, has reached Virtuos studio, which, despite the success of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and the great interest of the public in Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, is experiencing serious problems and plans to cut a significant part of employees.

Here's What We Know

French journalist Gauthier Andres reported that in the near future in Virtuos will be a large-scale reduction, after which about 300 employees will be looking for a new job. The said number is 7 per cent of the company's total workforce. The layoffs will affect offices in the US, Asia and Europe, including three French offices.

The author specified that the main reason for this decision is "tension in the team". The fact is that the success of Oblivion Remastered did not help to improve the financial situation in the studio, because the company worked under a contract that did not provide for bonus payments from the sales of the game. The studio received a fixed payment for its work and could not thank its employees for their work with bonus payments.

Of course, this state of affairs did not satisfy the developers and they began to make claims. The management is also making counter claims: they believe that every employee should be able to interact deeply with generative AI, which Virtuos is actively implementing.

The French division of Virtuos Lyon has gone on strike and is demanding that the decision to lay off employees be cancelled, while officially the studio remains silent and does not comment on the situation.
