The Assassin's Creed series has moved into the active production stage: Netflix has announced who will lead the adaptation of the popular franchise
Five years after the first reports of plans to produce a TV series based on the Assassin's Creed game franchise, Netflix and Ubisoft have finally not only confirmed work on the film adaptation, but also revealed who will be responsible for its creation.
Here's What We Know
Netflix has confirmed that the Assassin's Creed series is not dead, it has been given the green light, and its showrunners will be Roberto Patino - co-creator of Westworld - and David Wiener, who worked on the Halo series. Executive producers are Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill and Matt O'Toole.
We've been fans of Assassin's Creed since the release of the first game in 2007. Working on this show day in and day out, we are excited and in awe of the possibilities that Assassin's Creed has to offer. Behind the scale, spectacle, parkour and thrills lies the foundation of the most important human story about people searching for meaning, wrestling with questions of identity, destiny and faith. It is a story about power, violence, sex, greed and revenge. But above all, it's a story about the value of human connections, regardless of culture and time, and what we stand to lose if those connections are severed. With the amazing team at Ubisoft and our Netflix cohorts behind us, we're committed to creating something incredible for fans around the world.
It is claimed that the Assassin's Creed TV series will tell viewers the familiar story of the Assassins and Templars confronting each other, but for now, fans of the series can only hope that it will be better than the failed feature film that was released in 2016.
There is no premiere date for the series yet.
