Tesla is preparing a new modification of the Model 3 sedan, aimed at the Chinese market. The version is designated Model 3+ and features an updated battery with an increased range of up to 700 kilometres on the CLTC cycle. Production is carried out at the Giga Shanghai plant, and the start of sales is scheduled for early September 2025.

Here's What We Know

Tesla has applied for a licence to sell the new version of the Model 3 in China. Judging by the markings on the rear of the body, the model is called Model 3+ and is a rear-wheel drive (RWD) modification with a single electric motor. It is equipped with LG's NMC ternary battery pack, which was previously only used in the all-wheel-drive Long Range and Performance versions - making the configuration atypical for rear-wheel-drive models.

The Model 3+ is positioned as a version between the Model 3 Long Range and Model S, but with a focus on efficiency and range without fanaticism. A new battery system with improved thermoregulation and adaptive charging allows you to squeeze the most out of it even when driving aggressively in city traffic. At the same time, there are few visual changes: a slight redesign of the bumper, modified discs and signature Chinese minimalism.

Tesla is clearly playing on the field of local grands - BYD, NIO, XPeng - which have already gone beyond the 650-700 kilometre range mark and are not slowing down in either technology or pricing. So the Model 3+ is not just a cosmetic update, but a response to the competition, tailored to the expectations of the Chinese consumer who is not willing to compromise on numbers.

The starting price will be 270,000 yuan, or about $37,600, making the model a potentially attractive alternative to both local Chinese brands and other Tesla models.
