American electric car manufacturer Rivian has made life easier for drivers: the latest software update uses the familiar Google Maps as on-board navigation. The functionality is unlimited: route building, real-time traffic jam forecasts and convenient search directly on the multimedia screen.

Here's What We Know

The main thing is that Rivian has not abandoned its own features for electric cars. All the usual tools, like estimating the range at the time of arrival, remain. But now they work more accurately: navigation takes into account the temperature outside, driving style, active energy consumers and even the trailer, if there is one.

The system still plots routes based on the optimum journey time, selecting fast and reliable charging stations. Rivian's own Rivian Adventure Network and compatible Tesla Supercharger stations are prioritised. What's more, each charging station is now rated based on reviews and real-world data from other Rivian vehicles to ensure the driver doesn't arrive at a terminal that isn't working.

The improvements have also touched on search. Now you can simply click on a point on the map - a restaurant, a park, a shop - and immediately see the opening hours, photos and rating. All this on a familiar satellite map from Google. And if a faster route appears on the way, navigation will immediately offer an alternative route.

The new system is available not only in cars, but also in the Rivian mobile app. Planning a trip has become more convenient: just collect the route at home and send it directly to the car.
