Criminal incidents are rare in the games industry, but composer Peter Connelly, who created the soundtracks for several instalments of Tomb Raider, attempted to play illegal games with British authorities and paid his freedom.

Here's What We Know

A British court found Peter Connelly guilty of committing financial fraud and sentenced him to 16 months in prison.

The composer had received two loans from the Coronavirus Pandemic Emergency Business Support Programme in 2020. The first loan, for £22,000, was legitimate and does not raise any issues with the UK Insolvency Service. The second loan, on the other hand, was obtained fraudulently: Conelly overstated his company's income figures, and by a factor of three - £150,000 instead of the real £58,000 - which allowed him to get another loan for £37,500, which is illegal and has attracted the interest of law enforcement.

Now Peter Connelly, instead of writing music, will spend 16 months in prison and will pay off the loan, and after his release will not be able to hold the position of director of companies for six years.

Recall, Peter Connelly is the author of music for Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Tomb Raider: Chronicles and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness, as well as Watch_Dogs and now closed The Crew.
