Preparing for the foldable iPhone: Apple has started developing iOS 27 with the needs of the new gadget in mind
Apple will release a stable version of iOS 26 for current iPhone models in September 2025, but the US company is already preparing for a bigger and more important event - the release of the first foldable iPhone model.
Here's What We Know
In the new issue of the weekly news digest Power On, authoritative insider and journalist Bloomberg Mark Gurman reported that Apple has begun an early stage of development of iOS 27. The new version of the mobile operating system is created with the needs of foldable iPhone.
Developers are looking to adapt existing features to the new form factor, improve the usability of the interface and bet on multitasking.
The foldable iPhone is expected to be unveiled in the second half of 2026, with the first demonstrations of iOS 27 coming by June's WWDC 2026 conference.
Flashback
There's little to no information about the foldable iPhone yet. According to insiders Ming-Chi Kuo, the inner screen diagonal of the foldable gadget will be 7.8″ without folds, while the outer screen will be 5.5″. When folded, the device will be 9 to 9.5mm thick, while when unfolded it will be 4.5mm to 4.8mm thick.
The foldable iPhone will get a titanium alloy body, dual rear camera and single front camera, and Touch ID instead of Face ID. The internal displays will be connected by a liquid metal hinge, which will significantly increase the strength and reliability of the design.
The screens for the new device are expected to be supplied by Samsung Display.
According to preliminary estimates, the price of the gadget will be $2000-2500, but given Trump's economic policies, closer to release the price may rise.
