The Mercedes-Benz company has revised the schedule for phasing out its compact models: instead of the hatchback and sedan A-Class scheduled for 2026, the model will remain on the assembly line until at least 2028. The reason - stable demand in Europe.

Here's What We Know

About the extension of the production dates was announced by the head of Mercedes production Jörg Burzer. He refused to name the exact date of the end of production, but confirmed that it is exactly about the extension of the current generation (W177), which debuted in 2018 and was restyled in 2022.

By 2028, the A-Class will have celebrated a decade on the market - a rare lifespan for models in this segment. A second restyling is not ruled out in order to remain competitive against the BMW 1 Series and Audi A3. However, a new generation is out of the question. A-Class will live up to its final cycle and in the model lineup will give way to the next CLA.

In the US market A-Class is no longer sold, but in Europe demand for it remains stable: in the first five months of 2025, 27,772 copies were sold, which is 15% less than in the same period last year. The B-Class, on the other hand, was less in demand - only 5,997 cars - and as planned, it will be taken out of production in 2026.

To free up production capacity in German Rastatt for the production of models on the MMA platform, Mercedes will move the final assembly of the A-Class to Hungarian Kecskemet. It is there that the model will be produced until 2028.
