Mercedes-Benz stops deliveries of the EQE and EQS electric models in the US
Mercedes-Benz will suspend production of all versions of the EQE and EQS electric models for the US market from 1 September. Although the manufacturer calls it a "temporary" measure, the specific timing of the resumption has not been specified. Also, dealers have already been informed about the cessation of taking orders for these models.
Here's What We Know
Officially, Mercedes does not link this decision to the end of the federal tax credit for electric vehicles ($7,500), which will expire on 30 September. However, such a factor could affect demand, even though the EQE's starting price in the U.S. is around $76,000 - and it would seem that such a rebate shouldn't play a key role in the purchase.
Another reason could be the brand's uncharacteristic design. The EQE and EQS were designed with an emphasis on aerodynamics, which is important for electric cars, but resulted in a generally criticised appearance - "sterile" and unemotional. As a result, demand was lower than expected.

Production of the EQE and EQS models in the US will continue for other markets. At the same time, Mercedes' strategy in the field of electric cars is undergoing changes: now the company is betting on electric versions of already popular models with an internal combustion engine. The first examples are the new CLA EV and the upcoming electric GLC.
