Microsoft has unveiled the Surface Laptop 5G, a new version of its 13.8″ business laptop, which launches on 26 August. The base model and will cost $1799.

Here's What We Know

The main feature of the new product is the built-in 5G modem that supports nano-SIM and eSIM, giving you a stable connection on the go without searching for Wi-Fi. Reliable signal reception is provided by six dynamically adjustable antennas and a special multi-layer body material. This ensures high-speed connectivity even on the move.

"This design required a new material, one that allows radio signals to pass through without impacting performance, while still delivering the durability, premium feel and lightness our customers are looking for. We developed a custom multi-layered laminate that meets all of these needs, enabling reliable 5G performance without compromising portability or design.".

The notebook is based on Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processors, has an NPU to support Copilot Plus AI and is optimised for Microsoft 365. The base model has a Core Ultra 5, 16 GB RAM and a 256 GB SSD, while the top-end version has a Core Ultra 7, 32 GB RAM and 1 TB storage for $2699.

Microsoft's 5G hardware has been tested with mobile operators in over 50 countries and supports over 100 networks. The Surface Laptop 5G can act as a 5G hotspot, giving out internet to other devices. This is especially useful for those who are often travelling or working away from the office.
