Lucid electric cars will have access to the Tesla Supercharger network from 31 July
Lucid electric car owners will soon be able to charge their vehicles at Tesla Supercharger stations across North America. Full access to more than 12,000 stations will open on 31 July.
Here's What We Know
The first Lucid model with Supercharger access was the Gravity crossover. Now it's the turn of the Lucid Air sedan as well, but with some limitations.
Firstly, to connect to the Supercharger will require a special adapter costing $220. It is necessary because Lucid Air electric cars are not equipped with NACS connector by default. Moreover, the adapter is incompatible with Tesla's V1 and V2 charging stations, which reduces the practical utility of the solution.
Secondly, the adapter is limited to a peak charging power of 50kW, whereas the Lucid Air is capable of charging up to 300kW. In practice, this means about 200 miles (320 kilometres) of range per hour on the Supercharger, versus much faster charging at other stations.
However, Lucid Air owners can still use alternative networks for fast charging at full power: Electrify America, EVgo, ChargePoint, etc.
By the way, Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX electric cars also have access to Tesla Supercharger in North America.
