YouTube has started to implement generative AI tools in the Shorts creation hub. The new features allow turning photos into videos, adding special effects, drawing on the screen with subsequent processing, and even creating music videos based on text prompts. Although the company does not specify how long the generated clips can be, they are likely to remain short.

The features are based on Veo 2, the second generation of Google's video generator. Among them are the "underwater" effect that adds inter-frame generation to create the illusion of immersion and a tool that turns simple user drawings into vivid images. Another new section, AI Playground, allows you to create full-fledged content (video and music) based on text queries, just like chatbots. All generated content will be labelled to let viewers know that AI is used.

It is interesting that despite the recent announcement of Veo 3, the new Shorts tools are currently working on Veo 2. Google promises a transition to Veo 3, but no timeframe has been announced yet.
