Up to 537 kilometres of range and 163 hp: the new MG4 EV has appeared in Chinese car dealerships ahead of its official debut
The updated MG4 electric car has started to arrive in Chinese showrooms, although the formal start of sales is scheduled for 5 August, and a full market debut is expected only in early September. The novelty is a deep modernisation of the current MG4 with improvements in design, stuffing and interior.
Here's What We Know
MG4 received a more rounded front without imitation grille, drop-shaped LED-headlights and an emblem with illumination. At the rear - LED-lights with a jumper on the full width of the fifth door and a bumper with a decorative insert in black colour.
Dimensions of the car, according to the Chinese media, have grown: length - 4 395 mm, width - 1 842 mm, height - 1 551 mm, wheelbase - 2 750 mm. This makes the novelty larger than both the current MG4 and the rival BYD Dolphin. The model is equipped with 17-inch wheels with a petal design.
Inside, there's a symmetrical front fascia with a soaring central multimedia system, rectangular digital instrument cluster and two-tone trim. The MG×Oppo's on-board system is based on Qualcomm 8155 chipset with support for voice control, pairing with external gesture navigation devices and AI functions.
The interior is finished in leather, chrome and is enhanced with backlighting. There's 50-watt wireless charging, a gearbox joystick on the steering column and power, heated and ventilated sports front seats. The second row - with a flat floor, panoramic sunroof with curtain, air ducts, USB ports and 60:40 folding backrests. The boot is a three-tiered layout for flexible stowage.
The MG4 is equipped with a 163 hp (120 kW) rear electric motor and a 70 kWh battery. It is the first production MG with a semi-solid-state battery, as announced by MG division head Chen Cui. The model will be offered in two versions: with a range of 437 and 537 kilometres on the CLTC cycle. Fast charging from 30 per cent to 80 per cent takes about 20 minutes.
The car is built on CTB (cell-to-body) technology, where the battery is integrated into the load-bearing structure of the body. Suspension is MacPherson type front suspension and torsion beam rear suspension.
MG4 may get L2+ complex with navigation function on autopilot (NOA) for driving on the motorway, but final specifications and prices will be revealed closer to the start of sales.
