Google is building a vibe-coding app - just tell AI what you want to create
As the posters on the pillars say, anyone can become a programmer. But it's not thanks to numerous programming schools, it's thanks to artificial intelligence. Google decided not to fight the epidemic of webcoding but to lead it.
What is a vibecode?
Web coding is programming without knowledge of programming languages. Artificial intelligence is great for this - just tell it what you want to get and it will give you the code, or even a finished project! Of course, not all tasks can be entrusted to artificial intelligence, but basic tasks can be easily optimised.
How Opal works
Just describe what the app should do, and Gemini will take care of the rest, delivering a finished project that you can send to your friends with a Google account. With this solution, Google is trying to completely eliminate the use of an IDE with code. Opal creates competition for such platforms as Canva, Figma, and Replit, which are already actively developing the concept of No-code programming. Currently, access to the public beta is available through Google Labs and only for US users.
What it means.
There is no doubt that artificial intelligence will take away completely low-skilled work in programming, as well as in many other areas. This will greatly reduce the cost and speed up the development of simple projects. At the same time, most experts are very sceptical that artificial intelligence will replace the development of complex projects that require highly skilled professionals. We are currently witnessing the biggest transformation in programming in the last 30 years. Software development will become faster and cheaper, but hundreds of thousands of people will be out of work. This is the price of progress that we are already starting to pay.
