Haier unveiled the HIVA Haiwa humanoid robot at AWE 2025 in China. This device is designed to help around the house and is able to perform a wide range of tasks - from cleaning and ironing clothes to operating household appliances and cooking.

Here's What We Know

The robot has a wheeled platform instead of legs, 44 degrees of freedom and can interact with objects up to a height of two metres. At 165cm tall and weighing about 70kg, it looks almost human-like, but is not yet fully autonomous: its actions are controlled remotely by engineers. This is necessary to train its artificial intelligence, which in the future will allow it to perform tasks without human intervention. The robot integrates with Haier appliances, making it a convenient element of a smart home and a potentially valuable assistant in the home.

It is stated that the final version of Haier's HIVA Haiwa will be able to perform the following functions:

  • cleaning: the HIVA Haiwa is capable of sweeping, mopping floors and picking up rubbish, including in hard-to-reach places;
  • cooking: the robot can perform basic cooking tasks including heating, mixing ingredients and serving. It interacts extensively with Haier kitchen appliances including oven, hob, and fridge;
  • ironing and folding clothes: the HIVA Haiwa can remove laundry from the washing machine, iron it and fold it neatly.

Surely with such a robot-helper and pets will not be so lonely in the absence of owners.

The robot is still a prototype and is unlikely to be able to take over housekeeping duties in the near future.
