Maserati's future remains uncertain, with sales plummeting in 2024 and rumours of a possible sale of the brand persisting. However, if the brand regains its popularity, a new manual transmission sports car could appear as early as next year.

Here's What We Know

Details are scarce, but in an interview with Autocar, Maserati technical director Davide Danesin admitted that a manual transmission is quite appropriate in such a model. According to him, there are still customers who want "really mechanical cars" and are not interested in electric cars.

Earlier this year, Maserati cancelled production of an electric version of the MC20 due to low demand. And this is not an isolated case: amid cooling interest in electric cars, more and more carmakers are returning to internal combustion engines. Even Lamborghini, according to rumours, may replace its upcoming electric GT with a hybrid.

"If we make a fully mechanical car, it's logical to equip it with a manual gearbox. So why not? It's perfectly in line with the brand. It's perfectly in line with our approach and our thinking. So, honestly, I think we will do it one day," Danezin noted.

It is expected that the novelty will be based on the GranTurismo and will receive a 3.0-litre V6 Nettuno biturbo engine. Now this engine develops 621 hp in the MC20 Pura coupe.
