GM has officially confirmed that the Chevrolet Bolt compact electric car will return for the 2027 model year - four years after the first generation was completed. The new Bolt will be built on GM's advanced electric architecture, formerly known as Ultium, and will be the brand's first mass-market vehicle with a NACS (Tesla standard) charging connector pre-installed from the factory.

Here's What We Know

Details are still scarce, but Chevrolet posted teaser photos on social media with the caption, "You asked - we heard. The #ChevyBolt is back and it's better than ever. More details this autumn."

Judging by preliminary information, the model will get new front and rear optics, an integrated NACS port (previously the Bolt used CCS with an adapter), as well as a number of other technical and stylistic improvements.

GM is carefully hiding the new product, and it's not even known yet if it will be a hatchback or a crossover. However, CEO Mary Barra has previously hinted that the next-generation Bolt will likely inherit a compact SUV form factor like the past Bolt EUV.

Also expected are all-wheel drive options, an updated version of SuperCruise autopilot, but most importantly, increased charging speeds (compared to the previous 54kW) and a redesigned multimedia system. Instead of the familiar Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the new model can use the inbuilt Android OS.

The full-fledged premiere of the model is expected in autumn 2025. Prices, specifications and sales start date will be announced closer to the debut.
