Adobe releases Windows ARM versions of Premiere Pro, After Effects and other apps
On 30 July 2025, Adobe launched a public beta version of its Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, and Media Encoder creative apps that are fully optimised for the ARM64 platform on Windows, including PCs with Snapdragon X-series processors (Copilot+).
Current status and limitations
The Premiere Pro beta is available as a native ARM app, but currently does not support third-party plug-ins, RAW formats (ProRes), hardware decoding of H.264/HEVC to MP4, or import/export of GoPro CineForm, Wraptor DCP, or P2 Movie formats. Adobe plans to add these features in future updates.
The After Effects video editor (ARM beta version) also does not support such formats as ProRes, ARRIRAW, SWF, MotionJPEG, MKV, and others; there is no hardware acceleration when playing and exporting MP4 video; third-party plug-ins need to be updated for the ARM version.
Audition and Media Encoder are also available in ARM beta with limitations - the same formats and effects that Premiere Pro currently doesn't support are still unavailable, but Adobe promises to fix this in the future.
Why It Matters
Until now, owners of ARM PCs (e.g., Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus/X Elite) have only been able to use Premiere Pro in emulated mode, which has reduced performance. Native ARM versions can significantly improve speed, stability, and energy efficiency. While Adobe released an ARM beta version of Photoshop in 2020, making Premiere Pro and After Effects for ARM proved to be a more difficult task, and the apps are now publicly available, albeit with limited functionality.
