After Microsoft released its quarterly report, the corporation's shares rose more than 4% in over-the-counter trading, helping it cross the $4 trillion mark in market capitalisation.

Here's What We Know

In the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2025 (US system), Microsoft reported revenue of $62 billion, an 18% increase over the same period last year. Net income was $22.3bn or $2.93 per share, with analysts expecting earnings of $2.92 per share.

The main driver of growth was cloud services, particularly Azure, which grew 23% year-on-year - better than the 20% forecast. Microsoft said more than half of Azure's 53,000 enterprise customers already use OpenAI-based tools.

Microsoft CFO Amy Hood said demand for AI solutions is outpacing expectations, and the company continues to invest in scaling infrastructure - primarily the data centres needed to support AI-based services.

Thus, Microsoft has become the second company in the world after NVIDIA, Nvidia's capitalisation has surpassed $4.3 trillion - a figure no other company in the world has ever achieved before, but the Redmond giant is behind the chip maker by $300 billion. At the same time, Microsoft has surpassed Apple, Amazon and Meta, whose results are also impressive, but they still remain behind.
