Mitsubishi Outlander Trail Edition: more black décor
Mitsubishi has unveiled a new version of the 2025 model year Outlander in the US called the Trail Edition. It sounds bold, but in reality it's more of a styling package than an attempt to make an SUV out of a crossover.
Here's What We Know
Trail Edition is based on the mid-size SE with all-wheel drive and a three-row interior. Its main differences are black accents: bumpers, wheel arch extenders, mirrors, door handles, grille trim, windows and roof. Trail Edition badges appear on the bonnet and boot door. The original 18-inch black discs are also installed.
The interior features black leather and suede trim, heated front seats, premium Yamaha audio system with 8 speakers and adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist. The equipment includes LED optics with washers, heated wiper rest zone and panoramic sunroof with a curtain.

Technically, Trail Edition does not differ from the usual Outlander SE: suspension, motor and transmission remain the same. Under the bonnet - 2.5-litre petrol engine with an output of 181 hp and 245 N-m of torque, working in tandem with CVT transmission and all-wheel drive system. Mitsubishi offers to fit Cooper Discoverer Road+Trail off-road tyres - but only as an option at the dealer.
The list of optional equipment also includes Thule branded accessories: a Caprock flat roof rack, mounts for bikes, kayaks or surfboards, and decorative graphic stickers depicting mountains.
The Trail Edition is on sale now with a recommended price of $39,295, which is about $4,000 more expensive than the base SE AWD ($35,195). It's a bit of an odd move, given that more serious upgrades have already been announced for the 2026 model year Outlander - including a new mild-hybrid powertrain based on a 1.5-litre turbo engine like the Eclipse Cross. There will also be a new LE trim at that time, and the Ralliart version will return.
