Google Phone beta version receives Material 3 Expressive design update
New interface elements in the Material 3 Expressive style have started to appear in the beta version of Google Phone 185. The update includes a redesigned navigation menu, no floating button on the right, new Home (formerly Favourites and Recent), Dialer and Voicemail tabs, and a side menu for quick access to contacts, call history, settings and help.
The call screen has also been updated: the end button is now wider and closer to the edge of the screen, and other elements are in the style of rounded tabs and extended brushes, with new swipe or tap gestures to answer.

Why It Matters
This year, Google updated its corporate design. The company uses Material 3 Expressive not only in Android 16 but also in the Wear OS system and key applications (Phone, Messages, Keep, etc.). The goal is to make the interface more emotional, with tangible responses to user actions, smooth animations, bolder colours, and responsive typography. These seamless updates are becoming more and more noticeable: Google Messages, Maps and others are gradually adopting the M3E style.
