Intel Nova Lake support is now available in Linux
Intel has started to introduce support for the new Nova Lake architecture into Linux kernel drivers.
Nova Lake will be the successor to Lunar Lake, which has not yet been released. Nova Lake is likely to appear no earlier than 2026, but developers are already adding the appropriate device IDs to the i915 DRM driver (responsible for Intel graphics). The current patches mention the name "NOVA" without any details about the configuration or changes to the GPU.
Why It Matters
Despite the problems and disagreements, Intel continues to release new processors. The peculiarity of Linux development is that after creating a new system kernel, it takes some time (usually six months to a year) before this kernel is released to various GNU distributions. This is the first public sign of Nova Lake, the next line of processors after Lunar Lake. The support for Nova Lake in Linux implies the gradual development of iGPUs and also confirms the work on the next generation of Intel mobile processors.
