Tim Cook's fruit monopoly: Apple sues Apple Cinema chain over trademark and logo plagiarism
Apple has once again filed a lawsuit against a company with a similar name - this time it was a small chain of cinemas.
Here's What We Know
Apple lawyers accuse the owners of Apple Cinemas of trademark infringement and deliberate misleading of the consumer.
The lawsuit claims that Apple repeatedly notified the cinema chain of the misuse of the brand and cites evidence in the form of social media posts and news stories in which people believed Apple Cinemas belonged to Apple and were surprised that it didn't.
Back in October 2024, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office rejected Sand Media Corp.'s trademark applications for "Apple Cinemas" and "ACX - Apple Cinematic Experience" after seeing them as extremely similar to Apple's name and logo.
The corporation's lawyers repeatedly communicated with Apple Cinemas representatives, but they ignored their demands and continued to work to promote their own business. Apple is now seeking an injunction against the use of the trade mark and monetary compensation.
