OpenAI said ChatGPT is on track to reach 700 million weekly active users - and that's just a few months after the 500 million mark recorded at the end of March 2025.

Here's What We Know

According to Nick Turley, the company's vice president of companion Nick Turley, audience growth has been 4 times that of last year. In his post on X, he noted that more teams and individuals are using ChatGPT to learn, create, and solve increasingly complex problems.

One of the catalysts for growth was the new GPT-4-based image generation feature introduced in March. According to OpenAI COO Brad Lightcap, users generated more than 700 million images in just a few days after launch.

Not only is the user base growing, but also the number of subscribers: according to the latest data, ChatGPT already has 5 million enterprise customers, up 2 million from June.

According to Sensor Tower research, ChatGPT is one of the top three apps in terms of user engagement, behind only Google and X (formerly Twitter). In the first half of 2025, average usage time was 16 minutes per day and frequency of use was more than 12 days per month.
