Linus Torvalds still uses a Radeon RX 580 and guess what processor?
Linus Torvalds, the creator of the open-source Linux operating system, has confirmed that in 2025 he will continue to run AMD's Radeon RX 580, a 2017 graphics card. He referred to it as the same boring Radeon RX 580 in his comments on a bug in Linux 6.17 related to the Display Stream Compression (DSC) module that causes the screen to turn off. Linus has enough hardware like this - the card handles the 5K display from ASUS ProArt for Linux kernel development just fine.
Linus has never been noticed for his love of 3D games, so why not? But its processor is Ryzen Threadripper for fast compilation of operating system kernels.
The RX 580 is known for its excellent driver support in Linux, with a fully open driver stack for stability and compatibility.
